Anda Kubis, Current Exhibition

Atmospheric Conditions is a new exhibition, Atmospheric Conditions at Newzones by Anda Kubis . In these paintings, Kubis creates a complex perceptual experience through colour and spatial relationships. They harken back to the shimmering effects of Impressionist painting—most notably, the use of closely related colour tones that produce visual vibration and illumination. While the blur alludes to digital imagery, the handmade drag of the brush remains apparent.

Kubis’ signature circular forms still dominate the compositions, but they are now more loosely rendered and often overlapped, creating spatial ambiguity. These paintings intentionally draw the viewer into a meandering visual experience yet frequently deny the eye a place to rest. Alluding to landscape, clouds, and shifting weather, the works remain resolutely abstract, emerging from an improvisational painting process.

Throughout creation, the paintings evolve into visual puzzles—resolved through intense observation and making—to heighten a hypnotic sensation of colour and surface. They take considerable time to complete, shaped by sustained viewing and thoughtful construction.

These paintings seduce and unmoor the viewer, inviting them into atmospheres that are both sensual and changeable, floating, uncertain, and constantly shifting.
